The Novelty Cracker in Search of Hot Females · 9 February 07

Back in America, a half-Japanese woman (from whom I am most directly descended) noted that Trader Joe's Wasabi Rice Cracker's used an unexpected Japanese symbol as their package logo:

Giving them the benefit of the doubt, she e-mailed them a query that included a hypothesis as to the intended meaning:

Comments: Your wasabi rice crackers are quite good, altho they could use a tinge more of wasabi. My (Japanese) mother and I would like to know why you use the symbol for "woman" on the wasabi package. Is it because you are targeting the "hot mamas"? or "hot babes"?

Just a question.
Sincerely,
alice reshamwala

To which they gamely replied:

Hello Alice,

Thank you for your request. We will forward your comments about the crackers needing more Wasabi to our Buying Department for future consideration. The packaging design was made by our art department.
Although we cannot be sure of exactly the reason for the choice we
definitely like your reasons!

Thank you for your inquiry and thank you for shopping at Trader Joe's .

IN OTHER NEWS: It occurs to me that were I a full-blooded half-Japanese-white man, I might be tempted to rock out with other full-blooded half-Japanese-white people and form a band called "The Wasabi Crackers".

Alas, "The Rather Tan Half-Wasabi-Cracker's Pani Puri Coalition" lacks rhythmic bite.

  1. Guess you guys forgot to purchase the accompanying “MAN” soy sauce-flavored cashews. Great for parties. Keep them in separate bowls though, unless you want some butt-ass ugly green babies that resemble a nut.
