Man, my pancreas is so glorious, when I think about it it brings to mind the decadent revolutio—
Moss the Interupter
—wha?! Hey, quit talking while I’m talking!

Jeez, what was I trying to say? I can’t remember… Man, I bet it was something totally awesome, though.

Curses, why must you always do this to me?

I hate you, Moss the Interrupter!

(Spotted at Kyoto’s Kiyomizu Temple)

In other news: If you have any idea what the Japanese on this unfortunately translated sign really says, please let me know.

Or just make up a crazy story about Moss the Interrupter and put it in the comments section. That’ll work, too.

Thanks.

  1. That’s my favorite place in Kyoto! There’s also a whole temple devoted to moss – “Koke-dera” – but you have to make a reservation 3 months in advance for visits. The sign just says that the moss is “jama”: something that gets in your way or otherwise makes your life miserable, although it’s interesting to think just what the moss moght be interrupting.

  2. The crusades had ended. Broken and demoralized, the soldiers began their long march home. With the loss of innocence came a certain freedom, but a freedom that came at the price of a mind harrowed by its memories. Moss the Interrupter had lain waste to those in his path, reclaiming the lands by claiming the lives of those poor people. But the brutal savagry that one so invigorated The Interrupter had been dropped by the wayside. After seeing the extent of the horror that could be blanketed upon a people, a person, a land, his once fervent idealism began to wither as with the onset of winter. No longer could his mind lay in the peaceful eden of faith, for he had seen the reflection of his faith upon the same faces whose lights he had so callously extenguished. “No longer” he thought to himself, “No longer will i be Moss The Interuppter, disturber of peace and tranqulity, but i, myself, will interrupt this ugly path upon which i have set, and forge anew, bringing a message of peace and compassion into the midst of areas rife with struggle.”

  3. Nathan, your knowledge of moss and kanji shock me. Thank you.

Will: Your interpretation of the life of Moss the Interruptor confuses me. Thank you, too.
